A couple of days ago Google started to send out notifications via WebMaster Tools (WMT) stating that they were not mobile friendly (but then you would know this fact if you were playing around in WMT right?!)
What I find interesting is if this development will finally usher in the mobile algorithm that I’ve been talking about for so long (examples include my 2+ year old post on mobile seo , the post on mobile unfriendly icons and on the growing importance of site speed to mobile seo)?
The warnings (snap shot above; though this has been taken from Search Engine Land as I haven’t seen them in WMT myself) state the site in question has critical mobile usability errors on 100% of its pages hence its pages will be “displayed and ranked appropriately for smartphone users.”
In summary I think a mobile algo will hit at some point; the question is when, the parameter set of the penalty and the severity of the impact.
04/02/2015 update: I still haven’t seen any warnings in the accounts I am connected with.
